Wow, it's almost Christmas again! For many people it is a great time of happiness, anticipation and spirits are high. This isn't true of everyone, especially those of us who may have lost a loved one recently or even a beloved pet. Sometimes we just don't have control of our feelings. But we can DECIDE to be happy. Scientists tell us that even smiling, causes our brain to think we are happy. Also, happiness is only fleeting no matter what. What we really need is JOY. What has that got to do with Christmas? Actually, everything. At this time of year (even though Jesus really wasn't born on December 25th) we have much to celebrate. An old, very old song beautifully expresses what the birth of Jesus can do for our psyche as well as our souls.
"O, come Thou Dayspring come and cheer or spirits by Thine advent here. Disperse the gloomy clouds of night. and death's dark shadows put to flight" *
Like Peter, when the waves around him threatened to take him down, he looked to Jesus. Jesus is the first step to that joy we mentioned. We trust that you know Jesus in a personal way, not just that he is the"man upstairs" or a theory or a myth, but that He is the King of Kings, Lord or Lords and Saviour of your soul. If you don't know Him in that way, right now is the best time to come to know Him. We would be glad to send you literature that can explain in full what this means and how you can know the joy that only He can give.
We trust that your Christmas will be merry and that you will have a prosperous, and peaceful New Year.
Once again, you may reach us at eandlhuested@comcast.net.

Thanksgiving Greeting

Since last Sunday was the one before Thanksgiving, our pastor pointed out that most people don't really take the time to actually sit down and list on paper, their blessings. That made me think about my own situation. So, I did just that and now I will share them with you.

  • The love and protection of God in my life.
  • My home and family.
  • That I live in America ,no matter how bad off she is.
  • My church and pastor.
  • My health, in spite of my disability.
  • That God has shown His patience with me as I have struggled to get this mission started.
  • My college education and the wonderful people God has brought into my life.
  • My wife, whom I met in Bible college.
  • My brother-in-law ,who gave me the idea of an internet ministry.
  • My father-in-law, who helped with the money for the computer.
  • The years I spent in Florida, where I gained great experience in church ministry.
  • Several of my friends who helped teach me computer skills to write these articles.

These are only a few, as I started seriously thinking about how truly blessed I am. I trust that you think about how blessed you may be, no matter what your circumstances. With God, one really doesn't have to be " under the circumstances", but rather be above them. He's there to help you. All you need to do is believe and ask. To each of you a Happy Thanksgiving. May God bless you.

As always, if anyone wants helpful literature or needs to contact me personally, you may reach us at eandlhuested@comcast.net. Take care until next time.

Helpful facts and suggestions

Here are some facts and a few helpful suggestions for epileptics:

  • Seizures have plagued mankind since the beginning of time.
  • People can rise above the difficulties of their circumstances to become a successful person in their society
  • Know, understand and live within your limitations. (This will vary with each person)
  • Know your seizure triggers. Some common ones are: Inconsistency in taking prescribed medications, lack of proper sleep, stress, heat, fever or food sensitivities.
  • Keep track of occurrences of seizures with a calendar, to determine a pattern or possibly aid in finding a trigger.
  • Have a good dependable support system and avoid being alone or especially traveling alone if your seizures are not well controlled and/or you have no forewarning (aura).
  • If possible, join an organization for emotional support and friendship. Examples would be--a church, epilepsy foundation, or clubs that can provide activities for people with disabilities.
  • Keep your mind alert by doing different activities that stretch your boundaries, but does not stress your mind.

Introduction to Lighthouse

Welcome to Lighthouse Ministry. I am Ernie Huested and I have had a burden for quite some time to reach out to those with epilepsy and/or are shut-in. After much prayer, the Lord has led me to start this ministry.
Being an epileptic myself since childhood, I understand the needs and inconveniences associated with this malady, I write this blog to hopefully be of assistance and moral support to others who may be suffering this same condition. This will also go out to the relatives, friends and web browsers, so that many people can be blessed.
I must emphasize that I am NOT a physician and cannot give medical advice. However, I do believe my fifty plus years of living with this often-times debilitating and annoying disorder gives me a sufficient background to lend support to those who would like it. I also have nearly forty years of marriage and four years of college in my background.

My goal is to give advice in the following areas:

  • Spiritual
  • Home and Family
  • Social
  • Relationships

I will offer literature to those who request it. Feel free to ask questions on a personal basis by reaching me via e-mail or through Shelby Bible Church at www.shelbybc.org.
