Too Much?

My grandfather used to say "I've got too many irons in the fire". He, living in a time when he fixed his own wagon wheels and shod his own mules and horses, knew what it meant. Some of you may understand that little piece of colloquialism, but just in case you don't. It is really very simple. It means we're doing too much at the same time. It's alright to stretch our boarders and grow out of our daily weed bed, but sometimes we have to be careful how many weeds we pull each day or we'll pay for it in pain and suffering. It causes physical pain, frustration and could lead to depression. OOH, that dreaded word that we're not suppose to feel as Christians. Well, we don't have to.
Taking things slowly, and with purpose can get us through many things in our lives. As the old Aesop fable about the tortoise and the hare, the tortoise won because of his determination, method, and had his competition in view. We have to attack life in the same manner. We also have to remember that we are not in this race of life alone. Get a friend or engage your companion in activities that bring you both closer to a goal-whatever it might be-- and together you can share in the success. Life isn't just about huge successes, but sometimes just little ones. Little ones lead to big ones without all of the stress of having "too many irons in the fire".

Until next time,
